Minimising losses, environmental impact & carbon footprint
Minimising losses by incorporating Nature Based Solutions in field margins and uncropped areas for managing erosion, runoff and flood risk.

Environmental impact of agriculture can be minimised by reducing reliance on crop protection inputs through enhanced biodiversity, minimising requirement for mineral fertilisers by improving soil health and increasing the efficiency of crop production. However, the potential for losses can still be high, particularly in periods of heavy rainfall. A belt and braces strategy to minimise this impact at a wider scale is to capture losses using diversified field margins, engineered riparian zones and buffers.

Integrated management
To minimise losses of agrochemical inputs from the cropped field areas at the CSC, we combine:

In-field regenerative practices (soil, biodiversity, nutrients)

with

Nature Based Solutions for flood risk management

Indicator monitoring
We use the Cool Farm Tool estimates of Carbon Footprint as an indicator of environmental impact. Use the drop-down menus to explore outputs.
